Delete Your Account
This applies to both renter and owner accounts, on the website and in the Stay The Villages app. Here’s how to request deletion, what happens next, and what we keep on file.
How to request deletion
Email us from the address on your account and ask us to delete it:
Include your full name and let us know if you have an owner or renter account (or both). We use this to confirm you’re the account holder before we act. We respond to deletion requests within 30 days.
What happens after you ask
- We confirm the request came from the account holder.
- Sign-in access is disabled and every active session and device is signed out right away. From that point, no one can use the account.
- We remove what we can immediately — profile details, saved homes, and app session data.
- Records we’re required to keep (below) are held for their required period and then deleted.
- We confirm with you once the request is complete.
An open lease or an active owner listing agreement can delay how quickly the underlying records clear out, but it never delays disabling access — that happens immediately regardless.
What gets removed
- Your name, email, and password.
- Saved homes and app activity tied to your account.
- Device sessions and sign-in tokens — revoked immediately.
- Your account’s link to any lease or inquiry on file. The lease or inquiry record itself may still be kept for the reasons below, but it’s no longer connected to an active account of yours.
What we retain, and why
Deleting your account removes your access and your personal profile. It doesn’t erase records that Stay The Villages, an owner, or the law needs to keep:
- Signed leases — a lease you signed (including the rent, fees, and county tax figures on it) is kept for 7 years from the signing date, the standard retention period for a rental contract. Stay The Villages is not a party to the lease; the owner and renter are, and either side may need that record for tax or legal reasons long after an account is closed.
- Billing and payment records — kept as required for accounting and tax purposes.
- Terms and Privacy Policy acceptance — we keep a record of what you agreed to and when, only for as long as needed to show that, then delete it.
- An owner’s own copy — if you sent an inquiry or signed a lease with an owner, that owner keeps their own copy of that conversation or agreement. Deleting your Stay The Villages account doesn’t reach into an owner’s separate records.
- A record that you asked — we keep minimal proof that a deletion request was made and honored, no longer linked to you, for up to 12 months, so we can demonstrate we followed the law.
See our Privacy Policy for the complete data retention schedule.
