Independent living vs renting a home
An owner-direct rental provides housing under a lease. It does not, by itself, provide personal care, meals, transport, clinical services or on-site assistance. Do not interpret an active-adult location as a promise that those services are included.
Compare what the agreement includes
Ask who handles maintenance, utilities, transport and household tasks. If another provider describes a package of living services, request its written service list and exclusions separately from the housing quote. Compare the complete arrangement rather than a monthly headline price.
Trying a neighborhood before a longer stay
A monthly or seasonal rental can let you assess a location and home layout before making a longer commitment. Confirm the property’s eligibility rules, minimum term, visitor policies and amenity-ID arrangements with the owner. Rental availability does not establish eligibility for any particular community service.
Questions for the owner
- What is included in the full lease price?
- Who responds to a maintenance issue, and when?
- What access arrangements apply to this home and these dates?
- Can the owner confirm the entrance, steps, bathroom layout and other features you need?
This is a housing-comparison guide, not an assessment of personal care needs or a recommendation of a care provider.
